Ranting and Blathering

29 Dec 2020:  Some things I've been enjoying/contemplating over the holiday break:

24 Dec 2020 Merry Christmas!!  Hope you are safe, comfortable, and have enough.

The Birth of Christ by Sandro Botticelli (Click to enlarge)

Luis Miguel Goitizolo explains: “[This] one, a little known 200 x 300 cm fresco by Sandro Botticelli painted 1476-77, is preserved at the church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence (Italy). The composition of the picture, as an arch, suggests that this fresco was once in one of the lunettes in the church.”

I love this painting--the expressions of the animals, the presence of little John the Baptist in the left background, and how tired and worried Joseph looks.  Also how the infant Jesus looks like he's about ready for kindergarten.  Mary appears remarkably vigorous, considering.
